HD Heroes

Patricia Dilley-Ryant

My mom was symptomatic with HD for the majority of my life. My earliest memory was an emotional outburst she had when I was about 4. Shortly after that, Mom was diagnosed with HD. She was the first in my family to be diagnosed. We didn't know anything about HD, and did our best to care for her. She spent the last 10 years of her life in nursing homes, and passed away February 14th, 2008 at the age of 59.

Shortly after that, I took the genetic test for HD. I was surprised that I was gene negative - I will never have HD. Unfortunately, all 3 of my siblings are gene positive - 2 are currently experiencing symptoms. I spend every day advocating for HD and giving a voice to my family. We are STRONGER THAN HD.
