Who We Are

Meet Our Family Advisory Board

Steve

Grew up in a suburb of Akron, Ohio and got married in the fall after high school graduation. Together we had 2 wonderful little girls. Tracy and Jaclyn. I joined the Air Force for 4 years and studied electronics. Had a nice civilian career in various fields of electronics and machine automation engineering. After the military we returned to the hometown in Ohio and raised our girls. As a family we have been able to travel and see a lot of great places. Tracy became a nurse and after many years moved to Virginia. Jaclyn became a school teacher and with her family moved to California.

My daughters gifted us with 6 grandchildren ages 26 to 12. 5 locally in Virginia and 1 in California with her father. With the 4 grandbabies at that time living in Virginia we left Ohio to follow our daughters family. Eventually ending up in North Carolina near my daughters family.

We first found out that HD was in our family when Barb's (my wife) brother was diagnosed.  Their father had passed away at a young age from kidney issues so they never saw HD symptoms in him. Later we learned that our youngest daughter Jaclyn was having symptoms and was diagnosed with Juvenile HD. This confirmed that Barb also carried the gene. She came to live with us and we cared for her until she passed away. I retired early to help take care of our daughter. I continue to be a caregiver for my wife even though she is currently able to care for herself and me.
