Finding Strength and Community: Growth Through HD Reach

I have had the privilege of supporting SF, a dedicated member of our meetups at Fiddlin Fish. He has been part of the group since I joined the HD Reach team. SF lost his daughter to Huntington’s disease and is currently the caregiver for his wife, who also has HD. Over time, I have watched him grow through his engagement in the meetups.

SF began to express interest in volunteering and attending other events like our Golf Tournament and Education Day. Last year he attended the golf event, and this year he was a speaker in the Caregiver Breakout at Education Day. It was his first time speaking to a group about the impact of HD on him and his family. He also volunteered at Education Day, both before and after speaking.

He has now become one of the community facilitators of the WS daytime lunch meetup. He has grown more comfortable speaking about HD and sharing his story. SF often tells me how appreciative he is of HD Reach and the support he receives.

He has enjoyed becoming more involved in the HD community and plans to continue volunteering and work with me to grow the daytime meetup. HD Reach has provided him a space to share his story, be part of the community, and overcome barriers within his own HD journey.
