My name is Olivia and I’m 17 years old with Juvenile Huntington’s Disease. I was diagnosed right before my 13th birthday a few years after my father. Living with this terrible disease has changed so much of my life. However, I still attend school and am a senior this year. I also participate in Girl Scouts. My favorite thing is PT where I get to ride Fritz a horse at hippotherapy. I also have a service dog Larry who helps me with walking, retrieving items and can go get my mom if I need help. Everyday I fight this disease.

A letter from Brandi Dellenback

Hi. My name is Brandi Dellenback. I just wanted to reach out to you to introduce myself as the new Care Navigator for HD Reach. I am just beginning my new role and I am beyond excited for the opportunity to be part of the HD Reach team and the HD Community!

As the HD Reach Care Navigator, I will be the “hub” for resources to support those impacted by Huntington’s Disease. My role is to ensure that you have access to the resources needed and assist you throughout your HD journey. I will be here to support you and your family with navigating through all stages of HD, as well as addressing any complex issues that may arise. I am devoted to helping you and your family feel supported throughout your journey. Let me begin by telling you a little about myself since I will gradually begin to learn more about you.

I currently reside in Pinnacle, North Carolina but I am originally from a small town in Carroll County, Virginia. I have 3 beautiful daughters and 1 granddaughter. I have over 15 years of experience working with individuals of all ages in various capacities. I received my B.S. in Human Services from Gardner-Webb University. I currently have a QMHP-C (Qualified Mental Health Professional-Child) certification in the state of Virginia. I also possess an ITFS (Infant Toddler Family Specialist) certification in North Carolina.  My most recent accomplishment is becoming CME4HD certified! Prior to beginning my role as the HD Reach Care Navigator, I worked in the health care and education field. I have previous experience as an Emergency Department Social Worker, as well as a Therapeutic Day Treatment Counselor for youth in the public school system. I also spent several years as a Behavior Coach utilizing Cognitive Behavior Therapy strategies to help improve the lives of my clients. As you can tell from my broad array of experience I am dedicated and passionate about helping others and I look forward to helping you navigate through your HD journey.

To be completely honest and transparent with you…I am new to the HD community. Therefore, I am excited to grow and learn with you. I was drawn to this position due to my passion for helping others. I truly enjoy connecting with people, hearing their personal stories, and assisting them with finding the resources and solutions they need to help improve their lives. I am so honored to be part of the HD Reach team and HD Community. Please know that I am here for you and I look forward to working with you as we navigate through your HD journey together as a TEAM.

I am excited to connect with you and thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself.
