Risky Behaviors

Risky Behaviors in people with HD are often the result of changes in the way the brain works. These behaviors can impact safety and interfere with medical treatment.

These behaviors include:

  • Avoiding dental and medical care.

  • Driving without permission.

  • Excessive drug and alcohol use.

  • Gambling.

  • Using narcotics

  • Smoking and Vaping.

  • Not taking medication as prescribed.

  • Not using seat belts.

  • Unprotected sex with strangers.

If a loved one is making, or likely to make risky choices, contact one of our social workers who can help you decide what to do. For support from other families experiencing similar problems, consider joining one of our Monthly Meet-Ups.
