“Safety first” is seldom as important as it is when taking care of someone with HD. Typically, someone with Huntington’s Disease is likely to experience aggression, suicidal thoughts, and refusal to give up driving. There are key steps you can take to help address all of these behaviors and minimize the overall risk and potential for damage to the person with HD and others. The first step is being able to recognize specific behaviors or triggers, then you can deescalate the situation or find a solution.
As always, if you have reason to believe someone is in imminent danger, call 911.
